The Greenburgh Police Department's K-9 Unit was re-established in January 2003. On January 6, 2003 Detective Wayne Papovitch and his partner canine Patriot began a seventeen week training academy held at the Yonkers Police Department K-9 Training Facility.
At the academy, Det. Papovitch and Patriot were instructed in obedience, agility, scent work, tracking and criminal apprehension. Our K-9 team graduated in May 2003 and is assigned to the Patrol Division.
Since graduation, the team has made several criminal apprehensions and arrests. The team has also been used to locate missing persons and track suspects. In addition to their law enforcement duties, the team has conducted demonstrations for schools, civic associations and local businesses.
