Community Affairs Unit
Unit Overview
The Community Policing Unit identifies and implements neighborhood-based police services to reduce crime, improve the quality of life, and engage community members in building partnerships and solving problems. Presently the Unit consists of four Community Policing Officers and is supervised by Lieutenant Norman Hall.
Innovative Approach
The Community Affairs Unit seeks to develop mutual respect and understanding between the Greenburgh Police Department and the community. The unit has taken an innovative approach to achieving its mission. Every year we will be holding the Town of Greenburgh Police Department Summer Youth Program.
The Community Affairs Units will be working with various schools to build effective relationships with students and staff.
Programs
The Unit attends many community events such as health fairs and educational seminars. Members have spoken at Career Days, Safety Day Demonstrations, and Stranger Danger Workshops.
Members also serve on and attend community group meetings and boards. Police Officers in the unit have a reading program at the Lois Bronz Children’s Center and many elementary schools throughout the town, in which they read books to the class and then participate in a show and tell with the students.
Law Enforcement Explorer Post
In an effort to get young people to think of police work as a possible career, the Greenburgh Police Department started a Law Enforcement Explorer Post in September 2003. Presently there are nineteen members who attend a weekly meeting at police headquarters.
The program gives young people a taste of what police work is about. Membership is open to youths between the ages of fourteen and twenty who have completed the eighth grade. This program is being coordinated by Lieutenant Norman Hall.
